Regular Tasks for This Role (includes but is not limited to):
- Primary Caregiver for 5 private, retired show horses, 5 miniature horses and 1 donkey
- Bathing all animals
- Grooming all animals (picking out their feet, etc)
- Braiding the horses hair (running braid or straight braid)
- Feeding and watering animals as directed
- Leg Wrapping (standing wraps, polo wraps, etc)
- Hand grazing (as needed)
- Walking animals to pasture
- Attending to animals medical needs
- Learning the animals and being aware if they are sick/acting differently
- Putting the health and safety of the horses as top priority
- Assessing horses physical health (are any legs swollen, etc)
- Stall cleaning and Barn cleaning
- Last clean of the day
- Night checks 4-5 times per week
- Maintaining cleanliness and organization of barn, storage facilities and any other work areas
- Driving a side by side
- Driving a lawn mower
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of Equine experience
- Must have worked with horses within the last two years
- Must have experience in equine health, care and grooming
- Background as equine vet tech is ideal
- Background as a circuit show groomer is a bonus
