Camp Chateaugay, a premier co-ed sleep-away camp for children ages 7-17, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Horseback Riding Director for our equestrian program. This full-time, residential position spans early-June to mid-August 2025, offering the opportunity to lead a vibrant English-style riding program in an extraordinary Adirondack Mountain setting.

Our well-established program features:

  • 13 well-trained horses
  • Team of three skilled English-style riding staff
  • Two fully-equipped barns
  • Professional sand arena
  • Dedicated jump field
  • Network of scenic trails
  • Spacious turnout paddocks

As Horseback Riding Director, you'll guide approximately 50 eager campers of varying skill levels, from beginners to those capable of jumping small courses. You'll have the creative freedom to develop a riding curriculum that balances skill development with memorable experiences.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Teaching the fundamentals of grooming, tacking, and stable management
  • Instructing riders in walk, trot, canter, and introductory jumping techniques
  • Designing engaging activities including trail rides
  • Organizing special events such as field trips to the Lake Placid Horse Show
  • Overseeing our extensive riding option (allowing campers multiple sessions weekly)
  • Managing the stable management program for dedicated horse enthusiasts
