Job Summary

The Facility Manager is responsible for managing the horse care and facility operations at New Vocations’ Lexington, KY facility including both the rehabilitation and training barns. The position manages all barn staff, ensuring that the day-to-day care and rehabilitation of the horses as well as facility maintenance is held to a high standard. This is a new position, so some responsibilities will be modified in the future to match the strengths of the employee and needs of the program.

New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program is the oldest and largest racehorse adoption program in the United States. Since 1992, we have focused on the rehabilitation, retraining and rehoming of these horses into the homes of qualified and loving adopters. New Vocations is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and accredited by both the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance and the Standardbred Transition Alliance.

Responsibilities

Facility Operations:

• Oversee all barn crew for both rehab and training barns to ensure daily schedule and horse care is performed properly
• Oversee the hiring and training of any new barn staff into the program
• Review timesheets for full-time and part-time employees
• Oversee supply management, including monitoring the use and preparing orders for needed supplies (bedding, grain, hay and barn supplies)
• Maximize resources/minimizing waste/assessing areas for efficiency improvements
• Ensure property is kept to a high standard of functionality, safety and physical appearance (including barns, pastures and fencing)
• Oversee daily and seasonal maintenance of the equipment
• Coordinate barn and/or facility use for events
• Review and approve invoices associated with the facility and care of the horses

Horse Care Management:

• Manage the intake process for horses coming to both training and rehab barns
• Oversee the plan for the daily care of horses, including feeding, turnout and stall cleaning for both training and rehab barns
• Create and oversee rehabilitation plans for horses on rehab
• Monitor individual horses’ health progress while in the program (rehab, herd management and general health)
• Manage Farrier and vet schedule
• Oversee veterinarian/ specialist appointments for horses on rehab and ensure everything is documented accordingly
• Herd health management including basic vaccination and deworming
• Manage relevant Lex Schedule & Status spreadsheet tabs
• Record any relevant notes for database/ tracking, and ensure files from vet appointments are uploaded to Dropbox, as needed
• Administer medications as needed
