Assistant Wrangler Coordinator is to be a crucial member of the YMCA Camp Carson team that ensure the reputation of the camp, as viewed by the community, staff, and YMCA, as a safe place of excellence-in-quality, focused on the mission of the YMCA. Through effective supervision and close attention to mission, the Assistant Wrangler Coordinator will assure that YMCA Camp Carson’s mission and excellence-in-quality goals are achieved.

Essential Functions o Assist Wrangler Coordinator for the planning, preparing, and executing for: Pre camp set up of barn Pre camp evaluation of horses Scheduling staff, campers, and horses of riding program Daily visual observation of all Barn Staff Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment Supervise care and health of horses Develop and maintain a Wrangler Program Manual alongside the Assistant Wrangler Coordinator o Supervision of Wrangler Staff (Wrangler Counselors) o Maintain a positive attitude that builds a culture of support among peers, and allows children and staff to feel accepted, challenged, and empowered o Maintain a safety oriented environment at camp o Reporting safety risks/hazards to Program Directors/Maintenance o Watches out for the health and safety of their staff and campers o Ability to serve and respond in a positive, respectful, timely, and caring manner to a diverse group of staff and campers – ultimately serving the mission of YMCA of Southwestern Indiana, Inc.

Desired Certifications/Experience Experience in Western style horseback riding Experience working in a barn and with horses Experience in management of horse health care Experience in riding lessons or trail riding supervision

YOUR IMPACT AT CAMP YOU are the LEADERs of our summer teams. Your hard work and creativity generates life-changing experiences for staff and campers. Horseback riding is a great way for campers to challenge themselves by trying something new and build skill during their time at camp. You make sure campers stay safe and have fun in an activity that is likely different that anything they’ve done at home.

YOUR DAY Wrangler Coordinators provide horseback riding experiences, horseback lessons, and trail riding experiences to a range of campers of differing ages and skill levels. You will also work to care for our horses by providing daily grooming and health checks, evaluating horses to determine which jobs and campers they are best suited for, and maintaining a clean and orderly barn and pasture.

YMCA Camp Carson is a summer residential camp located in Princeton, IN. We offer week long sessions for around 160 campers during the months of June and July. We have two horse specialty programs for our campers. The first is our Horseback Riding Program which allows campers to learn to ride a horse and then take trail rides. The second program is our Wrangler Program, "Horse Camp," provides campers an introduction to the responsibilities and joys of horses with lots of riding time and hands-on experience. We have 15 horses at our facility along with a barn, arena, and two pastures. Camp Carson offers campers an experience that lasts a lifetime and an environment where they are accepted, challenged, and empowered. We are seeking applicants who are dedicated to working hard and having a positive influence in the lives of children. The work is tough, but the rewards are a blessing. You will see lives change!
